Dr. Vitka Eisen - CEO

Vitka Eisen

Dr. Eisen has over 24 years of experience in the human services field, and a lifelong commitment to supporting people and communities struggling with addiction and incarceration. In her 20-year employment history with Walden House, she served in several capacities before being named Chief Executive Officer in January of 2010. She was instrumental in the HAFC-WH merger and became CEO of the merged entity on July 1, 2011.  Dr. Eisen is a Walden House graduate, “Class of `87.” She received her M.S.W. from San Francisco State University, and her Doctorate in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.


David Crawford - CFO

David Crawford

Mr. Crawford oversees Financial Planning & Reporting, Human Resources, Food Services, and Facilities. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan with a focus on Finance and Cost Accounting, and a B.A. in Economics from UC Berkeley. He joined Walden House in 2007 after acting as CFO at various Silicon Valley start-ups.

Jegan Anandasakaran - CIO

Jegan Anandasakaran

Mr. Anandasakaran is in charge of all Information Technology systems, including the design, implementation and administration of electronic health records, land line and cell phone systems, client racking and reporting, fiscal billing and allocation reports, and occasionally fixing people’s mice.  Known as a problem solver, he has been recognized by Microsoft as an Early Achiever MCSE and holds a B.A. from UC Davis.   He has been at Walden House since 2004 and also holds CNE status with Novell.

Wayne Garcia - Vice President of Programs

Wayne

Mr. Garcia oversees all Clinical Programs throughout the agency; this includes both in-custody and community based programs in Northern, Central, and Southern California. He joined the Walden House staff in 1996, and has held several positions throughout the organization since. He is a Registered Addiction Specialist and a National Certified Addiction Counselor. Mr. Garcia is also a proud Walden House graduate and success story, having completed treatment in 1995.

Demetrius Andreas - Vice President, Community Reentry Services

Demetrius

Mr. Andreas has been with Walden House in a variety of roles since 1988. He currently oversees the Substance Abuse Services Coordination Agency (SASCA) for Region III (Los Angeles County). Mr. Andreas is a Certified Clinical Supervisor and has received the Conrad B. Reish Award and Director's Distinguished Service Award from the Secretary of the CDCR.

Dr. Mardell Gavriel - Vice President, Mental Health Services

Mardell Gavriel

A California licensed psychologist who has developed and directed clinical programs at Walden House since 1997, Dr. Gavriel has been instrumental in the implementation of evidence-based practices at the agency. She has a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, an M.A. in Speech Communications from Northeastern Illinois University, and a B.A. in Jewish Studies from Spertus College.

Denise Williams - Vice President of Contracts & Compliance

Ms. Williams oversees Quality Assurance, CQI, and Licensing & Certification, and acts as the agency's HIPAA Privacy Officer. Previous to her current position, she served in numerous organizations in roles managing programs, quality service provision, and staff development within the San Francisco public health system of care. Ms. Williams holds a B.A. in Human Development from Cal State Hayward and is currently attending National University, pursuing a Master's Degree in Human Behavior with a focus on Organizational Change.

Jean Merwin - Vice President, Healthcare Services

Jean Merwin

Ms. Merwin oversees the operation of the Medical Clinics and the Rock Med Program. She is a Registered Nurse and has over 40 years of experience in the medical field. Before joining HAFC-WH in 2011, she was the principal member at the consulting firm Jean Merwin & Associates and served as the Executive Director of the Redwood Community Health Coalition.

Renee Smith - Managing Director of Women's & Children's Services

Renee Smith

With over twenty years of experience working with women and girls in the areas of substance abuse, mental health and corrections, Ms. Smith oversees all of HAFC-WH's programs, both community-based and in-custody, for Women and Women with Children. She holds an M.S.W. from Smith College School for Social Work and a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Chair of the statewide Female Offender Treatment and Employment Steering Committee, graduate of the first Women in Addiction Leadership Institute sponsored by SAMHSA, and Chair of the Walden House Gender Responsive Task Force.

Lauren Cimino - Grants Director

Lauren Cimino

Ms. Cimino is responsible for identifying and pursuing government and foundation grant opportunities that will further the mission of HAFC-WH. She joined Walden House as a Human Resources Manager in 2006, and transitioned to Grants in 2008. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon, and a B.A. in English from the University of Southern California.

Michelle Hudson - Director of Development

Michelle Hudson

Ms. Hudson oversees the Development Department, heading all fundraising, event planning, marketing and public relations matters. She joined Walden House in 2004, originally working as head of Human Resources, coming from a background in HR for high-tech and non-profit organizations. Ms. Hudson has a B.S. in Organizational Behavior and Leadership from the University of San Francisco.

Jeff Schindler - Director of Community and Government Relations

Jeff Schindler

A graduate of San Francisco State University, Mr. Schindler has over twenty-five years of non-profit experience, all within San Francisco organizations. He joined the HAFC-WH family in 2008. Prior to fundraising and development, Mr. Schindler worked for over 10 years in program director positions, overseeing social services for elders, teen mothers and their children, and teens living in the foster care system. As a member of the advancement team, Mr. Schindler develops communications with elected and government officials, oversees all aspects of community relations, provides executive consultancy to the CEO, and is the staff liaison to the Board of Directors.

Sarah Schoenberger - Director of Workforce Development

Sarah Schoenberger

Ms. Schoenberger supervises the Resource Center for clients, which includes employment, housing and education services.  Additionally, she is responsible for overseeing the mandatory and elective training for the entire agency. Holding several positions since joining Walden House in 2002, she took her current post in 2008. Ms. Schoenberger has a Masters in Organizational Psychology from Alliant International University and a B.A. in Applied Psychology from Pace University.

Arturo Carrillo - Director of Outpatient Services, Northern CA

Arturo

Mr. Carrillo oversees the HAFC-WH Behavioral Outpatient Services, the African American Healing Center, as well as the Alumni Association for both Northern and Southern California. He worked for Walden House for over 30 years in various clinical and administrative capacities and has a B.A. in Liberal Arts, with an emphasis on Human Services Administration. Mr. Carrillo is also a Registered Addiction Specialist with the Breining Institute and has received certificates in both Facilities and Project Management from UC Berkeley Extension.
